Autel U.S.has announced the phased integration of the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) Secure Data Release Model (SDRM) validation protocols into its key and immobilizer product lines. This initiative reflects Autel's commitment to supporting legitimate automotive security professionals while addressing growing concerns surrounding vehicle theft and unauthorized vehicle access.

Implementation and Rollout Schedule

Autel has planned a phased rollout of SDRM validation, starting in the third quarter of 2026.

Affected Autel Tools:

• KM100: Planned rollout in the third quarter of 2026.
• MaxiIM IM508 Series: Implementation planned in future phases.
• MaxiIM IM608 Series: Implementation planned in future phases.

Unaffected Autel Product Lines: The following product lines are not affected by SDRM validation:

• Diagnostic scan tools
• TPMS tools
• ADAS calibration equipment
• EV diagnostic tools
• Service tablets
• All other Autel product lines

What is SDRM?

SDRM is a security validation system already used by automakers to authenticate security-related transactions performed through factory diagnostic applications. Expanding this model to aftermarket tools is intended to help reduce vehicle theft involving such tools and to discourage the theft and illicit use of security-capable equipment.

When performing supported transactions, users will be required to enter their NASTF Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) ID and a passcode generated by the NASTF multi-factor authentication app. The transaction is then validated and logged within the NASTF SDRM database.

Functions Requiring SDRM Validation

According to NASTF, SDRM validation applies to security functions including:

• Add a Key
• All Keys Lost (AKL)
• Immobilizer Functions

Additional security-related functions may utilize SDRM validation depending on the specific tool and application.

Autel has worked closely with NASTF and industry stakeholders to implement a solution that balances vehicle security with practical usability for locksmiths and technicians. Autel acknowledges concerns regarding administrative requirements and operational costs and remains committed to implementing the program in a responsible manner that minimizes disruption to legitimate businesses.

Autel emphasizes that while no single measure will solve vehicle theft, effective risk mitigation requires cooperation across the entire industry, including automakers, tool manufacturers, locksmiths, repair professionals, law enforcement, and regulators.
